What happens if I exceed my plan limits?
We'll notify you before you reach your limits. For storage, we provide a grace period to upgrade. For operations, we'll temporarily throttle requests rather than block them.
Can I change plans anytime?
Yes! You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. Changes take effect immediately, and we'll prorate any billing differences.
How does annual billing work?
Annual billing gives you 15% off (paying for 10.2 months instead of 12). You'll be charged upfront for the full year, plus applicable taxes based on your location.
What currencies do you accept?
We support USD, EUR, and GBP. The currency is automatically detected based on your location, but you can change it during checkout.
How are taxes calculated?
Taxes are calculated based on your location at checkout. We show estimated taxes on this page, but the exact amount will be displayed in Stripe Checkout. EU customers may provide a VAT ID for business purchases.
What about data security and compliance?
All plans include encryption at rest and in transit, regular backups, and audit logs. Enterprise plans include additional compliance certifications like SOC 2 and HIPAA.
How does FreeState encrypt my Terraform state?
FreeState uses envelope encryption with AES-256-GCM. Each workspace gets a unique Data Encryption Key (DEK) that encrypts your state data. The DEK is itself encrypted by a master Key Encryption Key (KEK) stored in AWS KMS. This two-tier approach means the KEK never touches your state — only used to wrap/unwrap DEKs. What is BYOK and which plans include it?
BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) lets you use your own AWS KMS, Azure Key Vault, or GCP Cloud KMS key as the master encryption key. You maintain full control: FreeState cannot access your state data if you revoke KMS access. BYOK is available on Enterprise plans. See the BYOK setup guide to get started.
Can I rotate encryption keys without downtime?
Yes. FreeState key rotation is zero-downtime. All workspace DEKs are atomically re-encrypted in memory before any database write — state operations continue uninterrupted. Rotation of 1,000 workspaces typically completes in under 10 seconds. Learn more in the Key Rotation Guide.
